Trip FAQs

General Trip Questions

Are your trips beginner-friendly?

Yes! Most of our trips — from hikes to weekend getaways — are designed for beginners. I always tell you the difficulty level upfront so you can choose what feels right for you.

Do I need hiking experience to join?

Nope. You don’t need to be a hiker or athlete. We take breaks, move at a steady pace, and support you the whole way. Many people come on theirfirsthike or adventure with us.

Can I join the trip if I’m coming alone?

Absolutely. Most of our guests come solo. You’ll meet new people before the trip through our group chat, and once we arrive, everyone becomes family fast.

How big are the groups?

It depends on the trip:

  • Local hikes: 20–40 people
  • Overnight U.S. trips: 8–14 travelers
  • Retreats/glamping weekends: 10–20 travelers
  • International trips: 8–12 travelers

We keep the groups intimate enough to bond, but big enough for comfort and community.

Who leads the trips?

Every trip is led by me (Tee), sometimes with additional support from trusted local guides, activity partners, or my team. International trips also include vetted drivers and in-country guides.

Is this a women-only community?

Most of my trips are coed unless stated otherwise. Everyone is welcome as long as they respect the community standards and the vibe.

Are your trips kid-friendly?

Most trips are for adults unless specifically labeled otherwise. I’ll note age requirements clearly on the trip page.

How do payments work?

Most trips offer a deposit option + monthly payment plan. Your spot isn’t reserved until the deposit is paid.

Can I bring a friend or partner?

Absolutely! Friends, couples, and family members are always welcome. Just make sure they register individually unless the trip is priced per couple.

Payments, Inclusions & Booking

What’s included in my trip?

Each trip is different, but most include:

  • Lodging
  • Transportation during the trip
  • A full itinerary
  • Most meals
  • Activities + excursions
  • Group content/photos
  • A trip leader
  • A packing list + pre-trip guide
The details will always be listed clearly on the trip page.

What's not included?

Most trips do not include:

  • Flights
  • Travel insurance
  • 1–2 meals (to give you freedom to explore)
  • Personal shopping
  • Alcohol (unless stated otherwise)

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! Most trips allow you to reserve your spot with a deposit and pay the rest over time. Payment plans vary based on the platform we use, but are always clearly listed at checkout.

Are deposits refundable?

No, all deposits are non-refundable because they go toward securing lodging, transportation, and activities in advance.

What is the cancellation policy?

Each trip has its own policy listed on the trip page. Some offer partial refunds or credits within a certain window; others are final sale once booked. Always read the policy before reserving your spot.

How do I know my booking is confirmed?

You’ll receive a confirmation email immediately after booking. You’ll also receive an onboarding email with next steps closer to the trip date.

Travel, Safety & Logistics

Is it safe to travel with a group?

Yes — group travel is one of the safest ways to explore new places. We vet every destination, partner, and activity. On overnight and international trips, we also share safety tips, emergency contacts, and cultural guidance.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety is always the priority. If a hike or activity becomes unsafe, we switch to an alternate plan. Every trip has a “Plan B” built in.

I’m worried about being the only person of color. Should I be?

Shades of Nature exists because many of us have felt that way in outdoor spaces. Our trips intentionally center people of color, representation, and belonging. You will be surrounded by community — not isolated.

What if I have food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Just let me know ahead of time. We work with restaurants, chefs, and activity partners who can accommodate many dietary needs.

What if I can’t keep up during a hike or activity?

You won’t be left behind. We take breaks, check in often, and move at a pace that works for the group. If anything ever feels too challenging, you can always sit out or take a rest moment.

Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is optional but highly recommended for international trips and any trips requiring flights. It protects you from cancellations, delays, and emergencies.

Packing & Preparation

How do I know what to pack?

You’ll receive a complete packing list once you book your spot. You can also browse our general Packing Lists page for guidance anytime.

What should I wear for hikes or outdoor activities?

Comfortable workout clothes are perfect for beginners — leggings, athletic shorts, moisture-wicking tops, and sneakers with good traction. You don’t need expensive gear.

Do I need hiking boots?

Not for beginner trails. Many people wear supportive sneakers or trail running shoes. If a trip requires real boots, I will clearly let you know.

How physically demanding are the trips?

It varies. Most activities are beginner to moderate. Each trip page lists the difficulty level so you can choose what’s right for you.

During the Trip

What does a typical day look like?

Every trip is different, but most days include:

  • group breakfast
  • a main activity (hike, excursion, tour)
  • free time
  • group dinner
  • optional evening activities
We also build in rest time — every moment isn’t scheduled.

Can I sit out of an activity?

Yes. You’re never required to participate in anything that doesn’t feel good for you. This is your trip — take the rest you need.

Can I explore on my own?

Yes! Many trips include designated free time so you can shop, relax, or explore at your own pace. We’ll give you safety tips + recommendations.

Do people usually make friends?

Yes! Traveling with strangers quickly turns into traveling with friends. It’s one of the best parts of these trips — the community feels real.

After the Trip

Will we get photos from the trip?

Yes. I capture content during all trips and share a folder afterward with group photos, videos, and highlights.

How can I stay connected after?

Many people stay in touch through the newsletter, future hikes, group trips, community events, and even personal friendships that form on the trip.
